BBC Warns That ‘One Misstep Could Set Off a Chain Reaction in Southwest Asia’

April 17, 2024 (EIRNS)—The BBC ran an article April 16 on the crisis in Southwest Asia after Iran’s retaliation against Israel, which concluded that “one misstep could set off a chain reaction that could quickly spiral out of control.” The article emphasized U.S.-Israeli cooperation to deter the Iranian attack, noting that the “highly successful, hand-in-glove military action by the U.S. and Israel to defend the country … has seemingly rekindled some of the old warmth” in the relationship between the U.S. and Israel. The BBC piece quoted former U.S. envoy Dennis Ross, a 40-year veteran of U.S. diplomacy in the Middle East: “We have an Iran that took a step that it hadn’t taken before. And by taking that step it is showing a readiness to cross certain thresholds and the more they cross certain thresholds, they get more used to doing that. And the region becomes far more dangerous as a result.”
