April 17, 2024 (EIRNS)—According to a Downing Street spokesperson, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on April 16, and “reiterated the U.K.’s steadfast support for Israel’s security and for wider regional stability,” Financial Times reported. They spoke on April 16, “three days after Royal Air Force warplanes helped to protect the Jewish state from an Iranian aerial assault.”

Sunak further told Netanyahu that “significant escalation was in no one’s interest and would only deepen insecurity in the Middle East,” according to the Downing Street spokesperson. “This was a moment for calm heads to prevail,” he said.
