China Plans Space Forum with Ibero-American and Caribbean Nations

April 18, 2024 (EIRNS)—To celebrate China’s “Space Day” on April 24, the China National Space Administration (CNSA) announced April 17 that it will sponsor the first space cooperation forum with Latin American and Caribbean countries, Xinhua reported. CNSA, along with China’s Foreign Ministry and the government of Hubei province, will co-host the China-Latin America and Caribbean Space Cooperation Forum in the provincial capital of Wuhan from April 24-26, Lyu Bo, deputy director of CNSA’s Department of Systems Engineering announced in a press conference. Ninety delegates from 24 countries and 8 international organizations, including government officials and representatives from industry, research entities, and other private sector areas are expected to attend.

Xinhua explained that, in addition to the main forum, there will be four sub-forums on space infrastructure’s contribution to sustainable social and economic development, deep space exploration and space science, innovative development of the space industry chain, and global governance and capacity building in outer space. To celebrate Space Day on April 24, there will also be a China Space Conference, China Space Culture and Art Forum, among many other activities. Representatives from multiple government entities—the Chinese Academy of Sciences, universities and space enterprises, plus foreign guests from 50 countries and regions, and international organizations—will also be participating in these events.
