Nuclear Reactor Enters Commercial Operation in Georgia

April 29, 2024 (EIRNS)—The newest nuclear power reactor in the United States has entered commercial operation. Georgia Power reports that Plant Vogtle Unit 4 is now serving customers. The four-reactor power plant is now the nation’s largest, capable of providing 30 million megawatt-hours of electricity annually.

This follows the July 31, 2023, entry into commercial service of Unit 3 at the same location, which allowed Georgia to receive 25% of its electricity from the state’s nuclear plants.
