European Court of Human Rights Rules, Swiss Climate Policy Neglect Violates Plaintiff’s Human Rights

April 15, 2024 (EIRNS)—CNN reports that the ECHR ruled that Switzerland violated human rights by failing to adequately tackle the alleged climate crisis. The case was brought by some 2,000 Swiss women, most of them over 70, who argued that “climate change-fueled heat waves undermined their health and quality of life, and put them at risk of dying.”

The court ruled that there were “critical gaps” in the Swiss national legislation to reduce alleged planet-heating emissions; and furthermore, that Switzerland had failed to meet past climate targets.
