Assailants Strike Hit Protest Encampment at UCLA for Hours, While Police Arrive Late

Assailants hit out against the students’ encampment on the UCLA campus of those protesting against the genocidal actions against Palestinians in Gaza overnight. A large group wearing black outfits and white masks, carrying bats and sticks, and characterized by media reports as being a pro-Israel group, first attacked the barricades around the encampment, resulting in physical confrontations with the demonstrators. Video on social media showed the attackers hurling rocks at protesters, as explosions from hurled fireworks can be heard. Police were absent from the scene for several hours.

The assault began around 11 p.m. PDT on April 30 in Los Angeles. The headlines from the major media imply that the original demonstration was somehow involved in violence, as opposed to the opposite, that they were the ones assaulted.
