Dennis Kucinich Warns U.S. Is on ‘Precipice of Global War,’ and Wants an Automatic Draft

In an article published today on his Substack The Kucinich Report former Congressman and presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich warned that the U.S. stands “on the precipice of global war, provoking aggression rather than resolution with Russia, China and the Middle East.” Diplomacy has been abandoned completely, replaced with warmongering, he added.

As a sign of what is coming, Kucinich, who is a candidate for the House of Representatives, points to the Democratic amendment that is embedded in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which will create an “automatic draft.” That means that all males between the ages of 18 and 24 will be automatically registered in the Selective Service System, and unless the amendment is withdrawn prior to a vote on the NDAA, possibly coming this week, then “Congress will have taken steps to make automatic conscription the law of the land…. There is no other conceivable reason to require more than 16 million American males to be automatically registered for the draft, other than to prepare for a large-scale war,” and the NDAA “Automatic Registration amendment facilitates an efficient, large-scale draft.”

It is imperative, he warns, that Congress take up the question of war, “long before the country institutes an automatic draft. An automatic draft is a preparation for war, dramatically altering the lives of young Americans. They deserve an answer. We all deserve an answer.” He vowed that if elected, he will propose legislation to abolish automatic registration for the draft. Serving in defense of one’s country is an “honorable and sacred obligation. But our leaders have a deeper obligation, a solemn duty to explain why. They have not done so.”
