Pompeo's Desperate Effort to Stop Africa's Development Through the Belt and Road Initiative

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo today exposed his vile effort to stop the development of Africa by any means necessary. Seeing that China has now become the key developer of Africa’s infrastructure, industry, education and health, Pompeo added on to his “Big Lie” campaign in a press statement posted on the Department’s website: “Empty Promises from the People’s Republic of China in Africa,” signed by himself.

After claiming that the US has “invested more than $100 billion in public health sectors in sub-Saharan Africa over the last 20 years and more than $360 million in COVID-19 response so far,” Pompeo points to last week’s China-Africa Summit, asserting: “We unfortunately saw more empty promises and tired platitudes from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). While President Xi said, `we must always put our people and their lives front and center,’ he failed to promise real transparency and accountability for the PRC’s role in unleashing this deadly virus.”

The Goebbles wanna-be could not claim China is not developing Africa and providing massive support to combat COVID-19, so he reverts to the lie that China caused the pandemic.

He then points to China forgiving huge portions of the debt of several African nations. Why hasn’t the US done so? Because the US won’t provide capital for development! Pompeo twists this as follows, with the other Big Lie of a “debt trap": “[I]t’s no secret the PRC is by far the largest bilateral creditor to African governments, creating an unsustainable debt burden. Most U.S. foreign assistance, by contrast, comes in the form of grants rather than loans, in order to promote transparent, private sector-led economic growth [i.e., no infrastructure - ed].” The US, he adds, by not investing in real growth, “helps hold governments accountable for their decisions and prevent corruption.” [mob]
