The Republican National Convention, originally to be held in Charlotte, N.C., was moved to Florida after the North Carolina governor wanted the event significantly scaled down, citing safety concerns. With the growing number of cases in Florida, President Donald Trump has now wisely chosen to cancel the Florida event.
“It’s a different world, and it will be for a little while,” Trump explained on July 23, “To have a big convention is not the right time.” Acknowledging the disappointment of some of those planning to attend, Trump said that “I just felt it was wrong” to hold the large in-person event. “We didn’t want to take any chances,” he admonished. “We have to be vigilant. We have to be careful, and we have to set an example.”
