Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s messianic speech on July 23 calling for an end of engagement with China and a mobilization of forces to crush China’s rise, in words that made clear he included war if necessary, brought to mind his embrace of the lunatic fringe belief in the Rapture.
The Rapture is a belief that in the “end times,” all true believers will be swept into Heaven as the world is destroyed. The so-called Christian Zionists associate this with the defense of Israel against infidels which leads to some form of Armageddon.
