None other than Robert Mueller himself has taken to the pages of the Washington Post to attack President Donald Trump’s decision to commute Roger Stone’s sentence. After repeating his lame claims — unsupported after two years of investigation — that “Russia’s actions were a threat to America’s democracy” and “WikiLeaks released emails stolen by Russian military intelligence officers from the Clinton campaign,” Mueller states why it is essential that Stone, who was never proven to have been involved in any of these nefarious activities, be held accountable for alleged crimes that would never have existed if not for Mueller’s fraudulent investigation, aimed at President Trump personally rather than the resolution of any violations of the law.
“When a subject lies to investigators, it strikes at the core of the government’s efforts to find the truth and hold wrongdoers accountable,” Mueller gravely informs readers, while reflecting on his own unimpeachable conduct: “We made every decision in Stone’s case, as in all our cases, based solely on the facts and the law and in accordance with the rule of law. The women and men who conducted these investigations and prosecutions acted with the highest integrity. Claims to the contrary are false.” Perhaps he protesteth too much. Saint Mueller had largely held his tongue since his embarrassing performance before Congress last year.
