United States' COVID-19 Infections Pass a Record 77,000 in One Day

The United States shattered its daily record for coronavirus cases July 16, reporting more than 75,000 new cases, according to the New York Times figures, the highest daily count ever recorded. The daily registered the death toll at 957.

The increase of cases is reflected by the fact that in June, the number COVID-19 cases rose by an average of 28,000 a day, whereas in July, they rose by an average of 57,625 a day, a doubling from the previous month. Recall that U.S. deaths lag behind the number of infections.
