Former FBI Attorney Kevin Clinesmith will plead guilty to a one count false statement charge filed August 14th in the U.S. District Court for Washington, D.C. by U.S. Attorney John Durham. This is the first plea to come from Durham’s investigation of the Obama Administration’s criminal abuse of the nation’s intelligence powers against candidate and president- elect Donald Trump.
Clinesmith was at the center of the falsified Carter Page FISA surveillance applications. Page, a Trump campaign volunteer who was also an asset of the CIA, became a target in Russiagate, despite the fact that he was reporting to the CIA about his Russian contacts. In addition to being made the target for FISA surveillance which, through FISA’s two hop provisions (allowing targeting of any contact of the original target), allowed for widespread illegal surveillance of the campaign, Page was a direct target of FBI/CIA/MI6 informant, Stefan Halper a/k/a “the Walrus.”
