Pompeo's Existentialist "One Against All"

Recall that renowned spokesman for the creation of the British Empire, Thomas Hobbes, who, in his Leviathan of 1651, wrote: “Hereby it is manifest that during the time men live without a common Power to keep them all in awe, they are in that condition which is called War; and such a war as is of every man against every man.” Then reflect on Mike Pompeo, who clearly believes that he is the incarnation of that “common Power,” with the right to dictate policies upon the mere family of nations, to “keep them all in awe.”

On Aug. 20, Pompeo notified the UN Security Council that, despite the U.S. having withdrawn from the JCPOA, the U.S. was nonetheless acting on a clause in the UN resolution making the JCPOA into international law, to “snap back” the sanctions on Iran, arguing that Iran has broken some of the requirements in the agreement. Within two hours, 13 of the 15 members of the Security Council had written official letters to the UN Security Council President denouncing the Pompeo notice, insisting that the U.S. has no standing due to its withdrawal from the deal, and that they all intend to continue working to maintain the JCPOA without the U.S. These 13 nations include Germany, France and the U.K. — supposedly the closest allies of the United States. Russia and China have warned that Pompeo’s move is not only “absurd,” but it is a direct attack on the very existence of the UN Security Council. Those five are also the signers to the JCPOA.

Pompeo’s response: “To side with the Russians and the Chinese on this important issue at this important moment in time at the UN, I think, is really dangerous.” His special rep on Iran, Brian Hook, conveyed the Hobbesian message: “We don’t need anyone’s permission…. Whether people support or oppose what we’re doing is not material.”

Franklin Roosevelt specifically proposed the concept of the “Permanent Five” of the Security Council, with the power to veto any resolution. FDR had made it clear to Winston Churchill that the U.S. was not fighting the Nazis and the Japanese militarists to save the British Empire, and that the former colonies seized by the Axis would remain “former” colonies, and that American system methods — not 18th-century British colonial methods — would be used to lift them out of their colonial misery. While France and the U.K. were to be included in the Permanent Five, FDR insisted that Russia (then the Soviet Union) and China also be included, such that any move to restore the Empire by the British and the French could be outweighed by the U.S., Russia and China. Granting a veto power to Russia and China also assured against any future decline of the U.S. under British imperial control — as indeed we have today, including emphatically the British multi-pronged coup attempt against President Donald Trump for daring to challenge that Empire’s division of the world.

But — Caesar Pompeo (author of the Caesar sanctions) has declared that the UN Security Council is no longer “material.”

In such a circumstance, especially since the Democratic Party has now declared itself to be nothing but a Manichean cult — of “light against darkness” as the programless Joe Biden put it at the virtual Roman Circus called the Democratic Convention — the role of the LaRouche movement’s comprehensive policy for a global mobilization to address the crisis facing mankind is indispensable. President Trump has proposed a private meeting with President Vladimir Putin before the November election, to set the agenda for an arms control treaty. It is still possible as well, that Trump could decide to override Pompeo’s madness, and proceed with the broader summit proposed by Putin, and agreed to by Trump, for a Permanent Five Summit, which would include Putin, Xi Jinping, Emmanuel Macron, and Boris Johnson. The Schiller Institute is mobilizing support internationally for this Summit to take place in September, with an agenda that addresses the total existential crisis facing mankind — the pandemic, the economic collapse, the historic financial bubble, the onrushing war danger, and the threatening mass starvation in Africa and South America.

Over 32,000 people viewed the Schiller Institute Spanish-language conference on Aug. 15, titled: “Towards a World Summit of Powers in September: The LaRouche Plan for a New Economic and Security Architecture for the Planet.” This was a preparatory conference for the two-day International Schiller Institute Conference to be held online on Sept. 5-6, titled: “War Drive Towards Armageddon or a New Paradigm Among Sovereign Nations United by the Common Aims of Mankind?” This conference will feature Helga Zepp-LaRouche, speakers representing the Russian and Chinese governments, and leading politicians and professionals from the U.S., Europe, Asia, Africa and Ibero-America. It is urgent that citizens of good will in every part of the world be informed of this event and make plans to attend. The invitation, with a link for registration, must be spread far and wide: see https://schillerinstitute.nationbuilder.com/20200905_conference#reg
