Indian daily The Hindu reported this weekend that 28% of all new COVID-19 infections occurring worldwide in the last five days were in India, with cases increasing by over 80,000 a day in the last three days. India has over 800,000 active cases at this time. On Saturday, India surpassed the four-million-mark of diagnosed infections since the start of the pandemic. That’s an increase of a million cases in the last thirteen days, and of three million since July 16, according to the Hindustan Times.
COVID-19 has taken almost 70,000 lives in India officially, fortunately, a lower case fatality rate than in many countries.
