Facebook Prepared To Ramp Up Post-Election Censorship

Facebook is prepared to take extremely strong measures to “restrict the circulation of content” in the event of civil unrest, delays in counting mail-in ballots, or the incitement of violence. “There are some break-glass options available to us if there really is an extremely chaotic and, worse still, violent set of circumstances,” said Nick Clegg, Facebook’s head of global affairs, who declined to get into details. More than 70 scenarios are reportedly under consideration, being gamed out by staff including military scenario planners. Facebook’s “Election Operation Center” will keep an eye out for “suspicious” information while offering approved information via its “voter information hub.”
