Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly yesterday, Japan’s new Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide said he was ready to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un without any preconditions. “As the new Prime Minister of Japan, I am ready to meet with Chairman Kim Jong Un without any conditions,” Suga said. He also said that the Japanese government was prepared to fully normalize relations with Pyongyang through “comprehensively resolving the outstanding issues of concern such as the abductions [of Japanese citizens by the North Korean intelligence agencies], nuclear and missile issues, as well as settlement of the unfortunate past.”
