Sept.9 (EIRNS)—Russian President Vladimir Putin has no current plans to meet U.S. President Donald Trump prior to the November presidential elections in the United States but a phone call may take place if necessary, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told TASS. President Putin will be leading Russian’s delegation to the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week to be held from Sept. 22-29, but only via video.
“So far, no conversation is planned. There is no reason to do so. But, as you know, they communicate quite often,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. He further stated that if necessary a phone call could “easily” be arranged. Putin and Trump have spoken by phone eight times so far this year.
Putin will lead Russia’s delegation to the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly but will address the gathering online, the official internet portal of legal information reported on Sept. 8.
Peskov told TASS that Putin will address the “unprecedented challenge the pandemic has thrown down to us. About numerous problems of humankind this pandemic has aggravated. About these things, naturally.”
After the President (in the format of a video address) and President’s aide Yuri Ushakov complete their participation, the Russian delegation will be led by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
The Russian delegation will also include Chairman of the International Committee of Russia’s Federation Council Sen. Konstantin Kosachev, Chairman of the International Committee of the Russian State Duma Leonid Slutsky, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin, director of the Foreign Ministry’s nonproliferation and arms control department Vladimir Yermakov, director of the Foreign Ministry’s legal department Yevgeny Zagainov, director of the Foreign Ministry’s international organizations department Pyotr Ilyichev, and Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vassily Nebenzia.
