South Korea Bidding for Ukrainian Nuclear Power Project

Korean Nuclear Power (KHNP) announced on Sept. 18 that it has recently discussed with Ukraine’s state-run nuclear power company Energoatom participating in a new nuclear power plant project to be built in the western Ukrainian province of Rivne, reported Business Korea yesterday.

Ukraine is planning to build a new 7,000 MW nuclear power plant by 2035, and Energoatom reportedly showed a great interest in applying the Korean-type next-generation nuclear reactor APR 1400. The APR 1400 is the reactor used for Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the United Arab Emirates, Korea’s first nuclear power plant export. The reactor is also used domestically for Shin Kori Units 3 and 6 and Shin Hanul Units 1 and 4.
