140 African Migrants Seeking To Reach Europe Die in Atlantic

At least 140 migrants from Africa died Oct. 29, when their vessel caught fire and capsized off the coast of Senegal, the United Nations’ International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported.

This was the sixth shipwreck with migrants recorded in the past week, including four in the central Mediterranean, and one in the English Channel.

The vessel left Mbour, in western Senegal, on Oct. 24, bound for the Spanish Canary Islands. Reportedly, the boat caught fire a few hours after departure, and capsized off Senegal’s northwest coast.
