Armenia and Azerbaijan Foreign Ministers To Meet Pompeo and Lavrov

The Armenian and Azerbaijani Foreign Ministers will meet U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Washington on Oct. 23 to discuss Nagorno-Karabakh. Citing U.S. government documents, Politico reports that, on Friday morning, Oct. 23, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov will meet with Pompeo, who will then meet with Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan shortly afterward. A tripartite meeting is not ruled out.

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held separate meetings with both Mnatsakanyan and Bayramov in Moscow on Oct. 20 and 21, in addition to the recent telephone conversations of Russian President Vladimir Putin with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the Russian Foreign Ministry said today. The issue was the ceasefire, which has yet to hold.
