Until recently, British intelligence and military leaders left their intentions toward China to be relatively low key, leaving the China-bashing to some politicians and think tanks like the Henry Jackson Society. But that has changed.
On Sept. 30, Obama’s CIA Director David Howell Petraeus hosted a virtual meeting with U.K. Defense Secretary Ben Wallace and Chief of Staff Gen. Nick Carter, in which they unloaded on China. Carter was especially deranged, arguing that China is using “political warfare rather than military, to break us without even going to war,” by “breaking our will power” and “attacks on our way of life,” to undermine the West’s political and social cohesion. He blathered that “where we see morals, the Chinese authoritarians see a target.” If it sounds familiar, he regurgitates ad nauseam what comes from the McCarthyites in the U.S. every day.
