Pfizer Poised to Request FDA Approval for Covid-19 Vaccine in Mid-November, Plans 100 Million Doses To Be Manufactured This Year

Forbes on Oct. 19 ran an article titled, “Pfizer Reportedly Manufactures ‘Several Hundred Thousand’ Covid-19 Vaccines Anticipating November Regulatory Approval”. The article states that Pfizer “has started work manufacturing hundreds of thousands of Covid-10 vaccines”, based on a story in the Mail on Sunday. The Mail on Sunday interviewed UK head of Pfizer Ben Osborn, who said that Pfizer hopes to make 100 million doses this year, and 1.2 billion doses in 2021. The article notes that Pfizer’s CEO last week publicly clarified that its best estimate for when it could apply for emergency approval would be the middle of November. The CDC recently revised its guidelines for vaccine approval, requiring a median of 2 months of observation of participants, which would be 2 months after half of the expected participants are vaccinated.
