U.K. Defense Establishment Wants Biden for President

The U.K. defense establishment is worried that Donald Trump may be re-elected. A media group called BFBS, which includes a radio/TV network called ForcesNet (www.forces.net), aimed at the British military, posted a homepage cover piece yesterday on “U.S. Election 2020: What Does It Mean for U.K. Defence?” While it touches on a number of points regarding the U.S.-U.K. military relationship and how they might be affected by the election result, it’s clearly Trump’s relationship to Russia that they’re most worried about.

“NATO’s biggest concern right now is Russia,” it says. “Its troops are in Ukraine, fighting on the opposing side to America in Syria, and carrying out poisonings with the nerve agent Novichok. Dr. Julie Norman, a Senior Teaching Fellow in Politics and International Relations at University College London, said: ‘We’ve seen Trump being quite cozy with Putin, being quite forgiving of Russia’s transgressions, you know, kind of making excuses and whatnot. With Biden, I think we’d see much more of a traditional approach, we’d see much more of a pushback to what are seen as Russian aggression, Russian meddling.'”
