Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi tweeted today that “there is no alternative to the China-Iraq agreement.” The Minister of Planning has also said that the China-Iraq agreement “oil for reconstruction” will be reactivated soon!
Some people are cautioning that this could be a tactical move to reduce the growing popular and media pressure on the government to revive the agreement. Al-Kadhimi’s government was installed last May by the U.S. and its allies inside and outside the country precisely in order to kill that China agreement, after its predecessor was overthrown in a color revolution that started as soon as former PM Adel Abdelmahdi returned in October 2019 from Beijing, where he had signed a Memorandum of Understanding reactivating the oil for reconstruction plan.
