Authorities have announced that Russia will produce over 1 billion Sputnik V vaccines in 2021, and promised to sell them at a lower price than Pfizer and Moderna, according to Russian media. Since a double dose is required, that will cover about 500 million people. The drug will be produced not only in Russia but also by “leading foreign pharmaceutical companies” which agreed to cooperation deals with the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF). A double dose of Sputnik V will cost about $20, RDIF said in a statement, as against $39 and $50-74 for Pfizer and Moderna’s vaccines, respectively.
