The United States has donated a $1.4 million, generator-powered, 40-bed field hospital — including advanced filtration systems and negative-pressure isolation chambers — to South Africa, which it launched in remote Mahikeng, on the country’s northern border with Botswana, on Oct. 26. In its release, AFRICOM said it has six other 40-bed and seven more 30-bed autonomous hospitals ready for installation as part of its Humanitarian Assistance Program.
