COVID Vaccines Progress Internationally

Health Canada, that nation’s regulatory agency, today approved use of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, and vaccinations are to commence immediately. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is set to meet Thursday, Dec. 10 to finally issue its decision on the same vaccine in the United States. Approval is expected, given that its own review of the data found it to be safe and 95% effective (not to mention that it is already in use in the U.K. and has now been approved by Canada). And today, the Health and Prevention Ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced good news from the interim results of its Phase 3 trial of the vaccine developed by China’s Sinopharm: 86% efficacy with no significant side effects, making it eligible for registration in the U.A.E. The U.A.E. trial is interesting, given that 125 nationalities were represented among the 31,000 volunteers who received the vaccines there.
