Global Times Pounds Biden’s Pandemic Plan, and the U.S. Response More Broadly

In a scathing article published in China’s Global Times by Shen Yi, headlined “Biden’s Pandemic Plan Fails To Properly Kill COVID-19 in U.S.,” the author states that Biden’s announcement of three key goals of his first 100 days — “masking, vaccinations, opening schools” – “cannot effectively improve the U.S.’s novel coronavirus dilemma.”

The author, a professor at the School of International Relations and Public Affairs of Fudan University, goes at the problem from various angles. “The healthcare system in many U.S. states is on the verge of collapse. Have U.S. President Donald Trump’s policies or Biden’s three goals ever adequately addressed these fields? No, obviously not…. Biden’s three soft goals signal that the U.S. has no interest in combatting the spread of the deadly disease.” Biden talks only about masks, but “many highly educated people in China are clearly aware that these three steps are essential to prevent and treat infectious diseases — controlling the source of infection, cutting off the route of transmission, and protecting vulnerable populations.” Biden doesn’t even address the last two. “To put it bluntly, Biden is betting on the COVID-19 vaccine supply.”
