Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov told Sputnik that Moscow is worried about the attempt “to intervene with force in the constitutional process“ of the Central African Republic, where general elections will be held next Sunday, Dec. 27, by former President Francois Bozize. The C.A.R. government has accused Bozize of planning a coup in the midst of escalating internal tensions last week. Bogdanov said that the Russian government will respond positively if the C.A.R. government asks for help, but only in agreement with the UN Security Council.
These charges of potential “meddling” are given additional weight when one considers that imperial operative Erik Prince has chosen C.A.R. as home base for his continental operations. Prince has been active in Africa since setting up shop in the C.A.R. in June 2019, under the new name of Frontier Services Group Congo. As reported by Reuters at the time, Prince’s new firm (now “headquartered” in Hong Kong) was to have activities in “timber, security, transport, construction, and financing.”
