With Brexit scheduled to kick-in on Jan. 1, the U.K. will no longer be part of the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy. On Nov. 30, the Boris Johnson government announced its new agriculture program, which, in keeping with Johnson’s recent full-scale leap into green madness, is one of literally undermining food production in favor of greenie fantasies.
The official document, “Path to Sustainable Farming,” reads: “The changes will be designed to ensure that by 2028, farmers in England can sustainably produce healthy food profitably without subsidy, whilst taking steps to improve the environment, improve animal health and welfare and reduce carbon emissions.” https://www.gov.uk/government/speeches/path-to-sustainable-farming
Tony Juniper, Chair of Natural England (the U.K.’s official environmental enforcer) said: “This plan marks an historic shift in the way we manage our land, setting us on course toward the production of sustainable food at the same time as rising to the urgent task of halting and reversing the decline of Nature.”
The report adds: “More than two-thirds of England is farmed, and this plan paves the way for those who manage the land to produce healthy food alongside other vital benefits, such as carbon storage, clean water, reduced flood risk, thriving wildlife and beautiful landscapes for everyone to enjoy.” The “common good,” it seems, does not include food.
