COVID Vaccination Mobe Begins in Mexico, with Every State Supplied

Mexican President López Obrador invited his Secretary of Defense to brief the morning press conference today on the blitz, one-day distribution of the first 400,000 vaccines to public hospitals in every state, executed by 8,600 military personnel on Jan. 12. Gen. Sandoval Gonzalez reported that the “Vaccine Brigades” had succeeded in distributing the vaccine to 94% of the designated 879 hospitals, weather conditions in two of Mexico’s poorest states, Oaxaca and Chiapas, having made helicopter transport impossible for the remaining 6%. Delivery to those hospitals was to be completed by noon today, he reported. Photos of the mobilization—soldiers, airplanes, helicopters bringing relief to every state—were presented in a short video prepared by the Defense Department, and later, live video feed was transmitted from the military central command center monitoring the vaccination now underway.
