Disgruntled Media, Dems Wail over Trump’s Popularity and 80% GOP Approval Rating

Liberal media and Democrats inside and outside of Congress are beside themselves over the reality that there just aren’t enough Republican Senators to support the conviction of former President Donald Trump, as seen in the fact that 45 Senators voted on Jan. 26 against tabling Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul’s motion opposing impeachment on Constitutional grounds. Moreover, Trump remains extremely popular within the Republican Party with an almost 80% approval rating. A despairing Politico article today, for example, complains about the “trumpification” of the Pennsylvania Republican Party given that every single Republican state legislator, except one, charged there had been vote fraud in the state and refused to accept Joe Biden’s “victory.” “What ever happened to the moderates?” Politico moans.

Many state and local Republican parties across the country are censuring those who broke with Trump and mounting primary challenges against them. In Kentucky, the Nelson County GOP has censured now Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (KY) for his opposition to Trump. Don Thrasher, head of Nelson County GOP, told Politico “there is a level of support for this President, more than during the election,” and commented that he had “never seen anything” like the post-election support for Trump. In Washington State, several Republican county chairs have called for the resignation of Rep. Dan Newhouse, who voted for impeachment.
