Amazon Celebrates Black History Month by Removing Justice Clarence Thomas Video

A 2020 PBS video about Justice Clarence Thomas, “Created Equal: Clarence Thomas in His Own Words” has been removed from Amazon’s streaming service. Why? Although Amazon has not released a statement on its decision, here’s a hint:

Justice Thomas issued a strong dissent against the 6-3 decision by the Supreme Court to refrain from hearing a case about the 2020 presidential election, on non-legislative changes to voting regulations in Pennsylvania.

“The decision to leave election law hidden beneath a shroud of doubt is baffling,” Thomas wrote. “By doing nothing, we invite further confusion and erosion of voter confidence. Our fellow citizens deserve better and expect more of us.”

“Because the Federal Constitution, not state constitutions, gives state legislatures authority to regulate federal elections,” Thomas wrote, “petitioners presented a strong argument that the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s decision violated the Constitution by overriding the clearly expressed intent of the legislature.

“An election system lacks clear rules when, as here, different officials dispute who has authority to set or change those rules…. This kind of dispute brews confusion because voters may not know which rules to follow. Even worse, ... competing candidates might each declare victory under different sets of rules.”
