France will send a frigate and an amphibious assault ship to the South China Sea as a part of its cooperation in the new Indo-Pacific strategy. This is not the first time France has sent ships to patrol the South China Sea. It will cross the South China Sea twice and then take part in maneuvers with Japan and the U.S. The French authorities announced that they would not transit the Taiwan Straits, although the commander of the convoy said that the exact route had yet to be determined.
