Bill Cassidy was the only new Republican Senator yesterday voting for an impeachment trial, joining the five Senators Collins, Murkowski, Romney, Sasse and Toomey who had already voted on Jan. 27 that there is no problem in holding an unconstitutional impeachment trial against now-private citizen Donald Trump when Sen. Rand Paul called the question. Cassidy claimed with a straight face that he switched his vote on the ridiculous grounds that the opening statements by the House Democrats were “well-grounded in the Constitution and precedent.”
