The guided missile destroyer USS John S. McCain passed through the Taiwan Strait earlier today in the first such passage under the Biden Administration. “The ship’s transit through the Taiwan Strait demonstrates the U.S. commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific. The United States military will continue to fly, sail, and operate anywhere international law allows,” said a spokesman for the U.S. 7th Fleet, reported CNN. CNN cites recent statements from the Biden Administration suggesting that there will be no pullback from the provocative actions against China that became increasingly typical under the latter portion of the Trump Administration, to include arms sales to Taiwan as well.
