Donors Conference Hopes To Raise Nearly $3.85 Billion To Prevent Famine in Yemen

Today, the donors conference on Yemen sponsored by Sweden and Switzerland convened virtually. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will appeal for $3.85 billion in relief aid this year though the UN does not expect to meet that goal. Its Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, OCHA, said the risk of large-scale famine in the Arab world’s poorest country “has never been more acute,” and that the years-long conflict, economic decline, and institutional collapse created enormous humanitarian needs in all sectors, reported AP Feb. 28.
