Western media headlines were bubbling February 24 with the news that 600,000 AstraZeneca (western) vaccines arrived Ghana last Wednesday. Of course, none of them mentioned what they all knew: that Chinese vaccines had hit the continent weeks earlier.
“The arrival of 600,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine in the West African country marks the beginning of the largest vaccine procurement and supply operation in history,” heralded Time magazine. 92 countries are set to get free vaccines in the next weeks through COVAX, the program led by the WHO; Gavi (formerly the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization); and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations.
