Mexican President Suggests U.S. Try Some ‘Vaccine Diplomacy’ of Its Own

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on March 14 thanked Russia, China, and India for having helped Mexico acquire COVID vaccines. He added pointedly: “I hope that soon I will be able to say thanks to the U.S. government, because I am sure they are going to help, too. It is just that they haven’t done so, so far.” When López Obrador recently met with President Biden, his request for help with vaccines was flat-out rejected by Biden’s team. Mexico’s Deputy Foreign Minister Martha Delgado has just made a new request to the U.S. that they sell stockpiled AstraZeneca vaccines to Mexico: “That vaccine is already authorized in Mexico, but doesn’t have authorization at the moment in the United States. They could release it,” she stated.
