President Biden has nominated Bill Nelson to be NASA Administrator. Nelson has had a more than 30-year career as a Democratic Florida state legislator, and a U.S. Congressman and Senator. A hallmark of his years in the Senate was his commitment to get things done for NASA when it required forging unshakable bipartisan alliances, and opposing the Obama attempt to end NASA’s manned space program. Nelson found this to be especially egregious, having flown on the Space Shuttle and appreciating both the Shuttle and the astronauts who flew them. Although Nelson will not determine what the NASA budget will be, he does have a voice.
What little opposition there is to his nomination has come from the “new space” cabal, that think that an old white male shouldn’t be given the job…
