Teaching Math Is Racist, Says the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

It’s not often that the LaRouche movement jumps to the defense of mathematics, but this one has gone too far. A program called A Pathway to Equitable Math, whose sole donor is the Bill and Belinda Gates Foundation, asserts that teaching math is an “inherently racist practice,” according to a March 1 report in Zero Hedge. Math teachers have to face up to and reject “the ways that math is used to uphold capitalist, imperialist and racist views.” I guess that means we should put an end to the practice of referring to “odd numbers” (disparaging to the abnormal), “irrational numbers” (offensive to the psychiatrically-challenged), and “imaginary numbers” (one man’s fantasy is another man’s reality). Or maybe it has to do with the fact that it’s awfully hard to count all the way to $137,000,000,000 — which is Gates’s last reported net worth (give or take a couple of hundred million)?
