Biden Moves To Pack the Supreme Court

President Joe Biden issued an executive order this afternoon to study the packing of the Supreme Court—that is, increasing the number of Supreme Court justices above the traditional nine, so the President can designate all the new appointees. During the election, he refused to acknowledge his plans to do so, simply saying that people would “know my opinion on court-packing when the election is over.” His short-term partisan action is coherent with both his maneuvers to bypass the need for 60 votes in the Senate, and his drive to drop traditional standards of identification in voting. He has also mooted ending the filibuster.
