Paraguay's Healthcare System in Total Collapse—No ICU Beds, Little Vaccine

Paraguay, which borders Brazil, has been struggling for weeks to deal with a surge in coronavirus cases, particularly with the P.1 “Manaus” variant which is circulating throughout the country, and now its healthcare system has entirely collapsed. On April 9, a record 2,479 new cases were reported, but all of the nation’s 695 ICU beds are filled, as are its 96 resuscitation beds, according to Leticia Pintos, Services and Network Director at the Health Ministry, Prensa Latina reported. There is also an acute shortage of oxygen.
