Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Senior Colonel Wu Qian, during the ministry’s monthly briefing yesterday pointed out that the level of U.S. military activity around China has spiked since President Joe Biden was sworn in. “Since the current U.S. administration took office, the number of activities conducted by U.S. warships and surveillance aircraft in the sea areas around China has increased by more than 20% and 40% respectively over the same period last year,” he said. “The U.S. frequently sends ships and aircraft to conduct activities in waters and airspace around China, escalating regional militarization and threatening regional peace and stability.”
“Some people in the U.S. government are getting really paranoid and keep playing up the so-called ‘China threat’ and ‘China challenge,” Wu said further in response to a question on the U.S. defense budget. “This reflects a mental illness. This kind of behavior will only harm others and itself and lead to a ‘self-fulfilling prophecy.’ China has no intention to threaten or challenge any country. However, if someone insisted on threatening or challenging China, we would have no choice but to fight back.” http://eng.mod.gov.cn/news/2021-04/29/content_4884413.htm
