The U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet charged in a release yesterday that speed boats from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy harassed and behaved dangerously in an encounter April 26 in the Persian Gulf with two U.S. vessels, the patrol boat USS Firebolt and the USCGC Baranoff. “Three IRGC Navy speed boats failed to exercise due regard for the safety of other vessels as required under international law as they came into close proximity to U.S. naval vessels in international waters of the north Arabian Gulf,” the release said. “The U.S. crews issued multiple warnings via bridge-to-bridge radio and loud-hailer devices, but the IRGCN vessels continued their close range maneuvers. The crew of Firebolt then fired warning shots, and the IRGCN vessels moved away to a safe distance from the U.S. vessels.”
