WHO Director Tedros Asserts, Advanced Sector Vaccine Hoarding Kills People

In a briefing in Geneva April 9, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, executive director of the World Health Organization (WHO), presented a dramatic picture of the effects of hoarding by advanced sector nations, which has left poorer nations without life-saving vaccine. Look at the fact, he said, that only 0.2% of all vaccines given have gone to poorer nations, while 87% have gone to wealthier countries. “There remains a shocking imbalance in the global distribution of vaccines,” he underscored, pointing out that, on average, in high- income countries “almost one in four people has received a vaccine. In low-income countries, it’s 1 in more than 500. Let me repeat that: one in four versus 1 in 500,” UN News reported him as saying.
