Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele last night wisely warned people on Twitter—his primary forum for getting out his message—that he had noticed that many were convoking a demonstration today as a show of support for his Government, and he urged them not to proceed.
“In our country, despite the most rapid vaccination system in the region, we have not yet vaccinated the great majority of people. Crowds are not yet advisable,” he wrote. “We have succeeded in keeping the infection rate low, and we are advancing the pace of vaccination rapidly. God willing, we soon will be able to hold huge events, but a crowd would not only put at risk those attending, but also their families. Let us be patient.”
Had it proceeded, the demonstration would have been very large and have sent a message to the Biden administration and web of globalization’s NGOs who have declared their intent to overthrow his government. Let his responsible intervention be taken as an example by other leaders around the world!
