Honduran President Ready to Set Up Trade Office in China, To Help Acquire Vaccines

Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez said yesterday that his government, which still maintains diplomatic ties with Taiwan, is prepared to open a trade office on the Chinese mainland, if this will help in acquiring COVID vaccines. China’s semi-official Global Times takes note of Hernandez’s remarks that the United States has a huge supply of vaccines which are about to expire, yet it prefers to hoard them, rather than make them available to poorer countries that urgently need them. The President reported that he has tried to obtain the Chinese vaccines, but has been unable to do so since Honduras has no diplomatic ties with Beijing. He has asked Taiwan for help in obtaining vaccines, to no avail.
