India’s Foreign Minister Pulled Out from G7 Meeting after Possible Exposure to Coronavirus Infection

India’s Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar was forced to pull out of the Group of Seven foreign ministers’ meeting in London today after it was discovered that two of the Indian delegates were infected with COVID-19. Subsequently, Jaishankar participated virtually in the event. The two Indian cases were picked up by advance testing and none of the party had attended the summit venue, where there are strict coronavirus security measures in place, Shropshire Star reported.

Meanwhile in New Delhi, the widespread COVID-19 infection has reached foreign embassies. The Tanzanian defense attaché has died and there were reports that another diplomat from the Slovakian Embassy has succumbed to the virus attack.

Some diplomats from a Middle Eastern country have left India in the past 10 days, with one still in Delhi, who asked not to be identified, saying it was “simpler” for them to do so rather than remain in India’s capital, South China Morning Post reported today. SCMP wrote that The Hindu daily reported that there had been COVID-19 cases in the embassies of Vietnam, Singapore and Thailand as well, though its emails and phone calls to the three missions went unanswered.
